Yokaw Pat is a much requested make-up artist in the Netherlands. It is a great pleasure to work with her. I interviewed her about her beauty rituals!
MOYM: How long have you been in the cosmetic/ beauty industry?
YP: Almost 5 years ago I finished my last course. But I’ve been in love with beauty images for as long as I can remember. As a kid I loved going to the beauty departement, every weekend with my mom. Taking home, these colourful make up brochures with all those magical images. My absolute favorite were those of Serge Lutens for Shisheido.
MOYM: What project are you working on at the moment?
YP: My personal project called: My future .
MOYM: What is your personal beauty ritual?
YP: I clean and moisturize my face day and night and my secret products are a mild ( not the heavy bleaching ones ) Whitening face wash at night and a mild whitening cleansing tonic in the morning. They are said to be bad for your health, but I don’t use the extreme ones.
The thing about these products is, is that they really do get rid of that grey filter on the skin and completely minimizes my pores. I still have a lot of freckles, so I guess they’re not that aggressive. These products are specifically tested on the asian skin, so I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone, though.
MOYM: Which make-up products you can’t live without?
YP: concealer, matte red lipstick, eyeliner
MOYM: Which designers or photographers have you worked with?
YP: Lately I work a lot with photographer Shamila and I’ve recently been chef de cabine for the Ilja Visser couture show.
MOYM: Are there Laura Mercier products you love working with? Name three:
YP: Hydrating foundation primer: it just sets the foundation so well, it can last the whole day and gives a natural healthy glow to the skin.
Secret Concealer: it neutralizes the darkest purple and blue circles under the eyes. Without having to be piled up in thick, dry, orange layers.
Mineral pressed powder: If you have good skin, you don’t even need foundation. It covers up some redness, for example around the nose. The powder isn’t completely matte, but it makes the skin look fresh and extremely soft. I don’t think, I’ll ever be able to work without it again!
MOYM: Name 3 easy to apply make-up tricks for every day women.
YP: Moisterize the skin and lips really really well before you apply any make up! Just a bit of concealer under the eye and blusher on the apples of the cheeks can brighten up any face.
MOYM: Are there products you are crazy about, and not (yet) available in Europe?
YP: I sincerly believe in the positieve effects Witch hazel has on the skin. Desinfecting, smaller pores, skin healing etc. Unfortunately Witch hazel isn’t as easily availible here as in Asia or the U.S. Luckily you can find it in a few Laura Mercier products like the Oil free Foundation Primer and the Secret finish.
MOYM: Where do you want to be in three to five years?
YP: Anywhere in the world where I still have the luck to surround myself with wonderful, talented, creative people.
MOYM: If there was only one thing you could take on holiday, what would that be?
YP: My boyfriend, happiness is my number one ingredient to a flawless skin!
Beautiful work by Yokaw Pat!
